Free feed health check: 10 minutes, straight answers

This is the same checklist we run through when a feed comes in for review: feed fetch, account state, errors, expiring items, warnings, in that order. Tick the boxes honestly and you will know exactly which of your problems is killing products and which is just noise. Nothing you enter here is uploaded anywhere.

Part 1: the checklist

Work top to bottom. The order matters: an issue higher up makes everything below it pointless to check.

Feed level

Account level

Item level

Reading your score
Every box you could not tick is a live issue, and the first unticked box in the list is your priority: fix feed level before account level, account before items. Eleven out of eleven ticked is a healthy feed. One or two unticked is normal drift. Three or more, or any unticked box in the feed or account section, is worth fixing this week, not next month.

Part 2: the top ten Diagnostics errors, decoded

These are the issues that show up most often on real Diagnostics pages, what each one means, and whether it is an error (product dead) or a warning (product limping). Every issue name here links to the fix library or the verified source behind it.

1

Missing value [gtin]

Error. No GTIN submitted for a product that has one. Limited visibility or disapproval. Fix: the missing GTIN fix.

2

Missing value [brand]

Error. No brand submitted. Products with a clearly associated brand must submit it. Fix: add the brand field in your backend and regenerate.

3

Invalid value [gtin]

Error. The GTIN fails validation: wrong length, letters, or a copied number. Fix: re-enter from the barcode, all digits.

4

Price mismatch [price]

Error. Feed price differs from the landing page or checkout. A classic misrepresentation trigger. Fix: the price mismatch fix.

5

Missing value [availability]

Error. No availability submitted, or a value Google does not accept. Fix: submit in stock, out of stock, or preorder as the attribute spec defines them.

6

Invalid image link [image_link]

Error. The image URL 404s, redirects, or is blocked. Fix: host images on the store domain, stable URLs, no hotlinked CDN that blocks crawlers.

7

Missing value [google_product_category]

Error/Warning. Missing or wrong category limits where the item can appear. Fix: map products to Google's category taxonomy, not a made-up label.

8

Missing value [mpn]

Warning. MPN is optional but improves matching and performance. Fix: add the manufacturer part number where one exists.

9

Missing sale price [sale_price]

Warning. A sale is running on the site but the feed has no sale price, so the ad shows the wrong price. Fix: submit the sale price so the ad and the page agree.

10

Feed fetch failure / no products in feed

Account-level killer. Google cannot read the file, or the file is empty. Nothing serves. Fix: fix the fetch first, then everything else: see warnings vs errors.

Issue names and the error/warning distinction come from Merchant Center Diagnostics and Google's help page, "Issues in Merchant Center": https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/2948694 (fetched and checked 2026-08-10).

What the checklist found

If the checklist surfaced a single concrete problem, the fix library has the dated, source-verified fix for it. If it surfaced several, or a feed or account-level box stayed unticked, the honest next step is a second pair of eyes: the free 5 question audit gives a straight verdict on the whole account, and the paid rescues fix the case end to end, refunded if not resolved.
