Termination, payout holds, review loops

Shopify terminated your account. The appeal steps that work.

A store deactivated after a policy review, payouts frozen mid-settlement, or an appeal that went nowhere. Most terminations and holds clear with the right evidence. Here are the steps, in order.

Why Shopify terminates

Terminations usually come from one of a few places: a policy review that found missing policies or unsupported product claims, a service mismatch between what the store promises and what it delivers, or a risk review that froze payouts and reserved funds. Sometimes it is a misflag, a legitimate store caught in a routine compliance sweep. The notice names the reason, so read it verbatim before you do anything else.

The appeal steps, in order

  • Read the termination notice and note what it names. The reason stated decides what your appeal has to prove.
  • Gather evidence. Store state, payout history, the documents requested, and screenshots of the admin pages. Keep it organised; it becomes your evidence pack.
  • Fix what is fixable before you appeal. Missing policies, unsupported claims, service mismatches. An appeal backed by changes is a different document from one that just asks for another look.
  • Appeal once, as the store owner. Shopify needs the owner on the thread. Submit the evidence pack with the changes listed and dated.
  • Follow up within the stated window. If Shopify asks for more, answer with the same evidence list. Do not resubmit the same appeal.
Tip
Do not open a new store while the old one is under review. It reads as evasion and it makes the original case harder.

What does not work

Opening a new store while the old one is under review. That reads as evasion and it makes the original case harder. Workarounds of Shopify's rules do not survive review either. And paying anyone who promises restoration before reading your notice is a guess dressed as a guarantee.

When the honest answer is no

Some cases are not fixable by anyone: terminations for confirmed fraud, and accounts where the owner has lost access, because Shopify needs the owner on the thread. If the business model itself breaks Shopify's policies, the fix is a business change, not an appeal. A legitimate service tells you that before taking your money. Every case differs, which is why the diagnosis comes first.

Not sure if your case is fixable?

Take the free 5 question audit. It runs in your browser, it takes two minutes, and it gives you a straight verdict: fixable, likely fixable, or unlikely. If your case is one of the unfixable kinds, it tells you that too, and it costs nothing.

What are the appeal steps for a Shopify termination?

Read the termination notice and note what it names, gather evidence, fix what is fixable before you appeal, appeal once as the store owner with the evidence pack, and follow up within the stated window.

Why did my Shopify appeal fail?

An appeal with no changes behind it does not survive review. Opening a new store while the old one is under review reads as evasion, and resubmitting the same appeal does not work either.

When is a Shopify termination unfixable?

Terminations for confirmed fraud, accounts where the owner has lost access, and business models that break Shopify's policies. A legitimate service tells you that before taking your money.
